Hello, Here is the transcript of episode 2 Julia Grayling…. Cheers!

Papa Joey
Welcome to The Truth About Beer Anddddd

Keith
Episode 102

Keith
titling this episode

Papa Joey
number one there’s like a truth about beer and Julia gravy. Hello. Hello.

Jack
What do you call it?

Papa Joey
What do you want to call her? I don’t know. I heard

Julia
my new last name gravy.

Julia
grayling. Julian gravy. I’m sorry. You heard

Julia
I changed my last name.

Papa Joey
gravy already

Keith
took 30 seconds.

Papa Joey
take long at all. Yeah. So thank you, jack.

Papa Joey
I think he’s gonna tell us about our beer.

Keith
We have

Keith
variety here. I’m drinking the fence jumper golden ale from humble bears. You get chords in your way over there.

Keith
There we got the Ocean Beach style IPA, West Coast IPA. Let’s go almost What are you drinking jack?

Jack
Mandarin wheat? Yes. How’s it it’s good to taste like oranges nice which and I’m guessing this the Mandarin

Keith
Mandarin

Julia
I’m missing the whatever the weak flavor is. That just keeps it light.

Keith
Yeah, I don’t know where delicate power yours is this dark is the IPA so much every week.

Papa Joey
I couldn’t find the line. It was delicious. Actually.

Keith
Go Bears as a local brewery. They’re based out of Gilbert started in 2013. So I’m guessing reading the story and yes, it was based off the family then we don’t so and they do their pet friendly. So Bring your dog there and but the dog’s name was bear.

Keith
Uncle bear they call them

Julia
really

Jack
let the dogs come on in and

Keith
reminds me of a great story that I’m not going to tell.

Jack
Don’t leave your dog there. Make sure you take him with you and you’re

Keith
tied up.

Julia
I’m glad you brought that to everyone’s attention.

Jack
Yeah, you were there when? Yeah. Okay, so another local bar we’re close by

Jack
person. I don’t know. They came in. I got on the microphone on stage with us and, and accused everyone is stealing their dog.

Julia
But they really drunk.

Jack
Oh, yeah. Yeah, but

Julia
usually somebody gets on the microphone

Jack
hopes that they own the place.

Jack
So it was who Oh my god. Yeah, it was good. Really good. I know you guys took my dog.

Jack
It was awesome. It was just priceless. What do you do? like a crazy person? Next door.

Keith
That’s when you get security

Keith
them off the stage for you.

Jack
Yeah. tagline come since day for

Jack
so I didn’t get a chance to listen you guys for podcast but I saw a little tidbits on video stuff, whatever it looked interesting. There was

Keith
about snakes. Very cool. Did you learn something new about snakes? Joey did I did? Would you know

Papa Joey
what to do if you get bit by a rattlesnake? What do you do? Let’s say you get bit on the arm. Well then you want to elevate your own. Try to get the blood flow through your body. quicker to dissipate. throughout the body, so you want to introduce Yeah, so like, I learned that tourniquets are bad

Julia
or something does it dissolve things? Is that one?

Keith
No, it actually does. Most of the venom that’s here in Arizona is human toxic metal. Okay, so if you put a tourniquet on it’s going to isolate the venom and heal that Roger. That much quicker. That’s pretty

Unknown Speaker
that’s how I

Keith
live outdoors. Cool. I’m here, but it was exciting. You know, it came in handy though when we played a Santana fly last week, because last night in

Julia
Yeah, he came to me what kind of

Julia
snake right there.

Keith
It was. It was crawling across the ground by the gate. We’re packing our stuff and bringing it out to the cars. So I heard you say it’s not betterness because it has a pointy tail. So you

Papa Joey
have a blank tiller a pointy toe. He said he’s

Papa Joey
got a ponytail.

Julia
I really need to I need to watch.

Papa Joey
Well, today we’re gonna learn about Julia

Papa Joey
why she’s so darn

Papa Joey
talented?

Julia
Oh, I inherited it. No, I didn’t know I grew up with it. My dad was in a recording band in the 70s called Hartsfield. So I kind of was like the toddler on stage when they were still jamming with like a tambourine. And I just naturally took to it. Actually, he didn’t really push it on me think when I was like around 10 and start picking up the guitar and strumming it, but I knew nothing. So it was just noise. So he’s like, here’s free falling, learn how to play it connect me when you can say it and play at the same time. I’ll show you something else. So I came back to him and I was like, I can sing and play at the same time. And then I rearranged the chorus so I can I wrote a new song.

Papa Joey
Oh, yeah. When you wrote your first song and

Julia
13

Papa Joey
Wow,

Julia
yeah. It was like Here’s some more chords.

Julia
Yeah, and, you know, I couldn’t play it. I can’t remember it in my head just because I don’t really forget, you know, most of them

Unknown Speaker
doing it wrong. Yeah.

Julia
But a potential

Papa Joey
What was it about?

Julia
It was called black jacket white hair bow and it was probably about some boy in junior high. I actually know exactly what it was about.

Keith
Some boy Yeah.

Julia
I will make sure he listens to this to hell of it.

Keith
get embarrassed. Yeah.

Papa Joey
You grew up in, in Chicago.

Julia
in Chicago. Yeah, I lived there. Until I was 18. My whole family moved to the east valley, Gilbert And I was here briefly and then I ran away to Los Angeles at 19. Because I’m a daredevil. And I live in a rebel. I lived there for three miserable years. I’m kidding. I loved it. I lived there for three years. And then you know, I was starving. I was like, maybe come back to Arizona. I love it here too. So, very cool.

Papa Joey
Yeah. I’ve made some really good connections there. I did. Absolutely. So who are some of the people that you’ve met there that? Well,

Jack
you gotta go there often. Still, you still go to LA, regular basis.

Julia
You know, I was so last summer I started going to Los Angeles. Back and forth a little bit. I was working with a hit songwriter named Bill Steinberg. And we were, you know, doing some co writing together and we’re still in touch. It’s, you know, but it’s been really cool and I’ve learned a lot from him. More recently, I’m going to set up our Well near Santa Barbara, working with Christopher king. He was

Unknown Speaker
a TV in

Julia
TV and film composer and he one of his most famous things. He did the Futurama theme song.

Julia
Rescue me the OC. Oh, wow. Yeah. I mean, the guy’s just he’s brilliant. So we’re working on a new project. We’re in the really early stages. There’s a lot, you know, to be done and put in but, but it’s cool so far. Cool.

Papa Joey
Yeah, I’m excited. Once I’m Billy Steinberg’s, no slouch either

Julia
belly slider is not

Julia
like a virgin, like a virgin to myself.

Papa Joey
Now there’s a bangle song there’s

Keith
a banner by my going there

Papa Joey
was an eternal flame.

Julia
That’s so cool. It’s not cool to my favorite lovely little pretty song.

Julia
Yeah. He’s brilliant. I mean, there are endless things I have to learn from that guy. You know, my most recent stuff, but you know, as a musician, I’ve worked with all kinds of people. I was in France four years ago working with James singer, producer and, you know, we recorded some songs together and

Julia
I’m just kind of meeting everybody and working with everyone and crossing my fingers. Are you?

Julia
Is your is your goal or I guess is your dream to be a performer entertainer or a published writer or what? Like, there’s so many guys that write to write tons of stuff that have tons of influence on the industry that we’d never heard of.

Julia
Right. So

Julia
the dream would actually be to write songs and perform them because for me, you know, my first love is probably songwriting. There was definitely song performing comes in pretty close. So I mean, it wouldn’t be bad if I was a songwriter and was writing for other people. Doesn’t mean I don’t you know, I’m not gonna perform ever again. But

Julia
no I’m I think most the Songwriters still perform their tunes even though the labels Yeah, just sort of that thrill of having somebody else take your life totally

Keith
on your own so

Julia
yeah, cool. I’ll take whatever this industry’s gonna give me better

Julia
I knew I was gambling with my entire life when I decided to be a songwriter, but I’ll do and

Keith
so what is the writing process for you? Like,

Julia
typically it happens really fast. I don’t really overthink it. Sometimes I do. I mean, now that I’ve learned, you know, different exercises and you know, kind of ways to write and how to structure things from the songwriters, I’m, I’m applying that so I’m putting in work that I’ve not really ever done before. But you know, my whole life, it’s been like a moment and I just have it’s like throwing Um, there’s a song. So it’s

Keith
really fast. Lyrics first for you or your music first.

Julia
It can go either way. Really? I don’t know if one is more than the other, be honest. And I write the most in my car. And it’s always been that way.

Julia
Do you record it? I do. Okay. Yeah, it’s like the worst thing is like having a liquor or thought or Yeah, there, go through your head and then never be able to remember right? Even as a group. Yeah, we had great parody song going right and not a single one of us can remember what it was. I

Keith
just know. We are all rolling on the floor.

Julia
thing ever What was it? I don’t? I don’t know.

Julia
Yeah, no, I always record it just in case but I typically like if I didn’t have anything recorded on which I have a phone. Yeah, so I always have something Yeah, but if I didn’t, I if I say something out loud a few times. I pretty much remember it. That’s cool. Um, so that that came in handy,

Jack
not an exceptional amount of drug use, you know, clearly

Julia
so far.

Julia
Remember just thinking about Yeah.

Keith
I think I’ve tried to write in the past and I usually come up with an idea. I’ll jot it down and then I get writer’s block. I can’t go any further than that. I’ll have a verse and that’s it. Yeah, I have a whole notebook for that.

Julia
writer’s block is torture. And when I have it, it doesn’t last very long. I don’t know why I’m just really lucky. You know? It’ll be like a month, and I’m like, wow, yeah. Cuz I’m just like cranking them out, you know, as often as I can. And so many of them don’t even play, but I wrote them, and they come back later

Papa Joey
sometimes. So how many songs do you think you’ve written so far? I

Julia
honestly, don’t even think I’d be able to guess. Well,

Julia
a few hundred for sure. For sure. I mean, it’s I started on 1328. And I’ve been writing like pretty much daily.

Julia
Yeah, and I remember a good chunk and when I was really young, even though I’ve heard it for years, you know, like certain things I’ll forget but what’s cool

Papa Joey
it’s weird man. They all documented somehow. I mean, some of ours, most of them I can do. Most of them are

Julia
actually dig through things, but,

Unknown Speaker
you know, high school Trapper Keeper,

Julia
I’m sure there’s some gems out there that like just happened and I forgot about it and that sucks. So that’s why, you know, I am trying to like, have a spot where the nose

Jack
41 song

Julia
took me 41

Julia
to 42 years I’ve written one song.

Keith
Oh dear, it’s hard. It’s a hard process. It really semi just comes natural for you. But

Julia
yeah, it really does. I would not have put myself as a torture of being

Julia
tortured artist. You know, it didn’t come naturally. I mean, I just know it. It just makes sense. That’s cool. So, so I’m stuck like this, I guess.

Julia
I love it. I love it.

Keith
I think we should hear some something Wonderful what

Julia
kind of song would you like to hear?

Papa Joey
What what are you really happy about right now? I mean that

Julia
you can write

Julia
a happy song

Papa Joey
something that expresses you something right now that

Julia
I’ll just play the most

Papa Joey
that’s a piece of art.

Julia
I am typically kind of a depressing

Keith
those are the best ones.

Julia
They are right something happy and like I don’t know what

Julia
crap you want me to write a piece right?

Julia
marketability stuff that’s pretty good I think I couldn’t handle it we need to be just like, you me know. It’s like just

Julia
being like you know 90% of the time on.

Keith
You know what’s great about the industry today. I think it’s changed so much over the years that back in the day when you got a record deal you deal with the producer, you You did what they wanted you to do right now? There’s so many platforms get your music out there, you can do whatever you Oh yeah, there’s a pretty

Julia
good thing and a bad thing. I mean, it’s oversaturated

Julia
a lot. Yeah, getting enough of an audience. So viable, tough apps, especially because this is gonna sound awful, but it’s just the truth of what’s accepted as quality. As dumbed down I mean, like, that’s true. So much top 40 stuff is essentially legal students.

Julia
Just repetition, find something that sounds kind of catchy, and then just repeat it 900 times before different word in there. But it’s just the same, same, right? popular.

Julia
Yeah. And that’s the balance of like, it’s hard. Keep it like that, because people don’t want to overthink it. I do. I love overthinking. That’s the thing. I can’t wait to be

Julia
a cerebral artist, but you’re gonna have a small audience,

Julia
right? Because I don’t

Julia
know. So I’m trying to find that like middle ground of I still being true to myself and what I would normally write about. Maybe I do dumb down lyrics. A bit but they’re still meaningful. You know? That’s kind of where I’m at. I’ve got you know, just as damn place

Julia
but it’s fun

Keith
to play something.

Julia
I will actually kind of happy

Julia
Okay, this is anyone wanna go with something new?

Julia
Okay, this is my favorite theme, which is my nine desire to never be in a relationship again.

Julia
Ever

Keith
that good?

Julia
Yeah. I was inspired by a friend that like basically asked me out. Let me check your micro Oh yeah.

Unknown Speaker
He said I like to take you as some time to set up Don’t do things anyway. Man. He said he

Julia
wasn’t born yesterday. But he looked me in the eye with a smile on his face sugars there a couple times and said to shake

Unknown Speaker
is so interesting. What’s the harm in getting to know me?

Unknown Speaker
A Novel explain why going out for drinks might sound like a harmless time for drinks, tuna dinner dinner. You know

Unknown Speaker
you’re developing

Unknown Speaker
always this way

Unknown Speaker
to shave hi Very,

Julia
very nice. Thank you

Keith
How do you remember all those words?

Unknown Speaker
In my head?

Julia
That’s cool. Yeah,

Julia
she big rapper. You’re a rapper too.

Julia
I, I’m gonna say no.

Julia
But um, I don’t know I kind of explore many genres and flow the

Unknown Speaker
lyrics and

Julia
I couldn’t I couldn’t sing fast.

Papa Joey
What I don’t even know what it’s called, but I remember it’s got a lot of words that you’ve fit into it. Yeah,

Julia
I got it small. I know.

Julia
I have a couple of them. There’s a few. I gotta do more of that.

Jack
compressor that listen for

Julia
Yeah, it’s great too, because like, he just crammed a bunch of words in but like, you know, there’s more of a just more more to say

Julia
I find it intriguing. And I find it interesting and nice that even those places where you said all those words, I could understand what they were. I knew what you were saying.

Julia
I’m really happy about

Julia
that. You should because it’s, I mean, it’s a big deal because as I turned more and more into an old guy, I find myself doing that stuff that my mother used to do. Like, I

Julia
can’t understand what you say magic. You’re mumbling your words and I don’t know.

Julia
I find myself thinking that they’re using I’m like, What

Julia
did he say? What’s he saying? I don’t understand.

Julia
It was nice that

Julia
you’re talking about?

Julia
Because my parents did the exact same my

Jack
mother’s my

Papa Joey
mother’s Jewish.

Julia
Always like yeah, I No idea. I don’t

Julia
but that’s the thing is like I think it’s maybe it’s a family thing I don’t know because that’s I get that

Julia
from my mom can understand you

Julia
clearly we don’t understand just an aging thing. It’s happening to me though.

Jack
Can you do a dad to set one? Yeah, he was home.

Julia
Oh shandell depression Oh, how sad Are we on? We go like straight depression.

Jack
Well how do you how’s your voice feeling? Are you feeling like can you do a big a big song or maybe just an emotional song doesn’t happen in the book?

Papa Joey
Cuz I don’t know.

Julia
Yeah, so I don’t want I don’t want to do

Julia
but I mean, you know nothing but usually that goes away once you start doing or you hope right?

Julia
All right. Sad Song

Julia
That’s awesome. Nobody can say to yourself I love you know if you can make me cry that’s okay

Julia
I’m actually gonna go with an actual like just song I wrote when I was definitely dealing with some oh cool straight up depression. Okay very folky and it was a it was in the moment like there was no stopping the song and I’ve changed a thing of it this way

Julia
it’s been a while so bear with me

Julia
noes

Unknown Speaker
laugh but I laughed so fucking hard. I started to cry.

Unknown Speaker
I started pulling my hair. The bottle was empty

Unknown Speaker
care

Julia
there is some Man I love is just so god damn far. While this means

Unknown Speaker
it dangles both our heart and

Unknown Speaker
just one more pill and

Unknown Speaker
the bottle is empty

Unknown Speaker
There was sound

Unknown Speaker
nice like

Unknown Speaker
you can hear a pin drop

Unknown Speaker
no zone

Julia
cool. Did it was good Yeah.

Julia
It is my favorite and healthiest probably coping mechanism. You know for sure. I mean, I think that’s why I like sad songs. It’s not that I can’t write happy Sounds like totally easy, but but when you’re when I’m sad, it’s like I just there’s no, I have no other option. It just happens, you

Jack
know? No, it’s there.

Julia
Yeah, but do you think you

Keith
and maybe I’m wrong? But do you think you reach more people by writing sad songs? I mean, it’s more of a personal connection. I think that’s,

Julia
Well, it depends on how sad you’re talking to us. Right? That the key, I think, to getting into this more popular stuff, whatever is taking it and for almost dumbing it down. That’s a very, very personal, very real experience for me. Yes. Who’s been through anything like that? It’s going to feel that 100% right there and those people are all in

Julia
you know what I have. I played that every now and again, it shows it just it really depends on the crowd and really how much I care at that point. But I have I played it and I almost always have people talk to me, at least one person that’s like, man, I needed that, like, No shit, and it was really personal. It was a very specific night and you know exactly what I was experiencing, but it’s still relatable. I mean, people are suffering with all kinds of stuff. I can’t just write happy things. That’s not fair. You know, we need to, like, we need to connect with each other. And I think art is one of the best ways to do

Unknown Speaker
that. Well, it’s amazing how therapeutic music really is. Oh

Julia
my gosh, yeah. Yeah. And like, you know, you get a little depressed and like, well, I’m happy music. No, I don’t want that it doesn’t match my mood. I want to be understood. And so when you hear something like that, you know what’s funny, because

Julia
I’m you know, I’m a broken human being myself and like, that kind of stuff. It brings me joy. Yeah, I love to cry. Right? Like I just my favorite emotion sadness, like

Julia
makes me cry. I want that. I want it

Papa Joey
to our misery loves company. Right,

Julia
right. Right. Without a doubt.

Julia
Some dudes get together like that amped up, they want to feel amped up I hate feeling that I hate feeling anger and like ready to go like football, you know, anger that was not necessarily that for everybody. Yeah, whatever. Everyone has their own thing, their own chemical response to and like, get jacked up like this time to fight. We’re in the tumble Rose Bowl kind of thing. I hate that feeling. Yeah, hey, yeah, but I love to cry. And it’s a good thing. Yeah. If music brings you that, right that people need that high energy stuff. I guess that’s why grindcore works. Right? You know?

Julia
Yeah. Yeah, that’s true. I mean, everybody’s different. You know, maybe there are almost definitely a bunch of people out there. That

Julia
doesn’t make sense to me. I love it got it got really depressing stuff. When I don’t have to be in a bad mood and it doesn’t necessarily put me in a bad mood. I want to legitimately cry. Yeah, it’s

Papa Joey
a happy place. You’re there. Basically, you know, when you’re when you’re down.

Papa Joey
You can only go up hopefully, yeah.

Julia
Try and make it come up. And so like, whatever. Yeah, whatever makes you feel better.

Julia
Crying is a good idea.

Julia
You know, everyone’s chemical balance is different.

Keith
Movies now because as I get older, I cry more. I like

Julia
I’m like, What depressing movie? I watch to cry it out.

Julia
Well, that’s just, that’s, that’s what makes it that’s what makes it good for me because because that is my favorite emotion. And I recognize that so yeah, I’ve seen stuff out there to a certain degree. And since being married, obviously my wife is different than I am. She doesn’t want to watch the sad stuff. And I the longest time I didn’t understand why. Tell her why she said movie with her. And oh my goodness, like, I like to cry. Yeah, she did. She weeps and she weeps painfully. Like you can’t even imagine. You can’t even imagine. Well, I almost want to experience it that she hates it. Yeah, she doesn’t like to be setting she’s like and when it’s like that, man, it’s, it’s just crazy. You know what dreams may come to go? Which fantastic movie. Fantastic. I loved it. She loved it. And it was distracting when she crashed.

Julia
She is overwhelmed by it. You will just immediately get like

Julia
Super amped. She’s super empathic anyway. Yeah, getting it can be a lot sometimes there’s a level where she can’t take it. Yeah, I found it so I didn’t invite her to watch that kind of stuff.

Julia
Like I had to cry tonight. So you just do your thing and you know, you know, we got her

Julia
back. There was a brand new for a dog’s purpose came on. And we just looked each other with no

Jack
she’s tearing up in

Papa Joey
Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Horrible.

Julia
I’ve never seen that you don’t need you

Julia
genuinely like this new

Julia
everything. Imagine it’s gonna be

Julia
entitled to a

Julia
steaming pile of you know.

Keith
So I know we’re gonna get questions. Do you have your music available for people to listen to? I didn’t want to say Yeah.

Julia
To make it simple go to Julia, share ul I grayling gra y la mg.com and it’s just directly install my social media. SoundCloud has a lot of cool stuff that I worked on in France. And like I said, I’m in the process of some new stuff. So in the meanwhile, I might throw throw up some, you know, new things that I recorded on my phone and tried to make sound decent. I might, but you know, there’s there’s there’s a lot material

Papa Joey
over here YouTube stuffs available on their

Julia
YouTube. Yeah, just gonna say yes to everything your significant younger than we are. So I imagine the earliest things you did are available somewhere on the internet. Oh,

Julia
yeah, definitely.

Julia
Yeah, that’s the thing. Like there’s little public access show from right my early 20s that somebody sent me one time was horrifying. I didn’t know it existed. I didn’t know it was on the internet. It was terrifying. Yeah. Hasn’t surfaced again, Emma.

Papa Joey
Oh, good. Yeah.

Julia
Yeah you know it’s yeah

Julia
the thing I want to do is here Yeah,

Keith
I didn’t need to find that video and put it on a projector war on stage one but if you

Julia
are ready to end your life

Keith
here’s the story of Jackson

Jack
it’s it’s it’s a nice little snapshot. When I was then

Julia
I was looking at cancer thin was really thin. I was a teenager natural Yeah, yeah, well I was I hadn’t gotten Fat Fat yet and also a nice little arc.

Julia
Now just the old gay body she opinions like

Julia
what’s going on? I understand. Your waist is moving. How does that happen?

Papa Joey
To be inverted

Julia
is definitely not what it was.

Julia
36 inch waist and then it was a 38 Then I haven’t gained and gained any weight and gained or lost any weight. Yeah, my pants I see changing going on. Like

Julia
I don’t know like a 42 is comfortable like that’s not cool.

Keith
We’ll definitely put a link to your website up on the podcast so people can go visit it. Sure.

Papa Joey
Can you do some really cool just self produced videos?

Papa Joey
Yeah, yeah. Pretty amazing.

Julia
Thank you. I appreciate that because I am using a phone. Some of them were like this really old iPad. Okay.

Julia
A drone. No, just me on the phone right now.

Julia
And because I’m a musician, I know going into $1,000 iPhone. Thank you for that.

Julia
works. You work with what you have. One of my favorite bands is Modest Mouse. I grew up listening to them. I just I know all of it, but I mean, they were like making instruments as kids like out of like scraps and stuff. You make it work. You know, if you want to make art, you’ll make art. I wish I had, you know, the proper equipment to really like produce what’s in my head? Not that I really could anyway because I know that’s not my strength necessarily, but you know, I enjoy. That’s fine. That’s cool. That’s the best I could do.

Keith
Did you see the YouTube youtuber Facebook video? The guy who made a guitar out of a shovel, you see that? Did you think I sent you that link? That was pretty cool.

Julia
handy.

Julia
This is cigar box one and then there’s the washed up guy. Yeah.

Jack
You can make one out of a bandana. Yeah, I

Julia
think that’s yours. That’s mine. It was just that falling up ahead and just realized what’s

Julia
what’s the purpose.

Papa Joey
So aside from music, you know what What occupies your brain?

Julia
Quite a few things. Oh, wow. I don’t know.

Julia
I have no idea you guys know I read actually this is funny because like careers music hobby psychology. Oh, we’re friends. It’s so hard. Yeah, I literally just be up all night reading about different mental illnesses like oh wow you know what do you know?

Julia
Interesting. That’s cool. Yeah I love it. It’s just interesting it

Julia
really did you see any I don’t know if you’re watching YouTube psychology What does that series there’s a whole series of psychology things on YouTube and it’s like psychology one on one I can’t

Julia
decide to go

Julia
I don’t think there’s a guy sitting in a chair and there’s some little graphics they do with it they make it really kind of corny and dumb down, but it’s really cool they go through, they go through like everything

Julia
yeah, I know it’s really it really is cool. I mean and not only is it just, you know interest me but Why are we not forced to learn about all of this?

Julia
that are in charge of things like sociologists and psychologists, people understand people, right? What motivates people what moves people,

Julia
people can’t even help one another because they they only know their way. And it’s like you have to, you have to understand everyone’s brain is slightly definitely, you know,

Julia
and then you add in things like chemicals, yeah, environment, absolutely sorts of steps, everything, everything changes a little bit.

Julia
I have ADHD, I’ve had it my whole life is still in the Stone Age is not real. It’s just your imagination. No, it’s really not. I’m super productive. And I just cannot stay attacks. Chemical Engineer chemicals.

Keith
I think that’s one of the biggest problems today is you know, instead of understanding what’s causing the issues, they just put you on medication.

Jack
Well, the problem is,

Julia
the medication works. The funny thing is, because they are self medicating, right, right. There’s such subtle differences and they’re being prescribed by people who don’t necessarily have any idea What it’s like to be that person, I can diagnose what you’re going through. But I don’t know what you’re going through like I had no idea was like to be in your head. Yeah. So but I’m going to give you this pill because somebody else told me it works, right?

Julia
You have to be self aware about it.

Julia
yourself, Is this working or is it not? And the risk is it’s changing you, right? So how aware you can be of the changes that it’s made to you? Yeah, sometimes difficult to impossible, right? When they do the whole, like Side effects may include, if you notice this, it’s like, if I noticed,

Julia
I wouldn’t have been in the shadow. Nobody knows me, Jackie. And if I have been able to notice those things.

Julia
No, I mean, it works for you. It is great. It is life changing.

Keith
So I have to segue into this because I’m really excited to talk about it. Probably segue away so you know what one of the topics that one of the series that we’re doing right now with our podcast is on fear. And we did the fear of snakes was the last time it was the first podcast we did. But Joey and I are both really intrigued by paranormal and we understand that you Had a little experience with that recently. Yeah. Care to share it.

Julia
Yes, I will share. Um,

Unknown Speaker
okay, so I’m like so

Julia
my birthday was May 30. The night before my birthday, I’ve got a really good friend and she, she’s a single mom, and she had to work an overnight shift at her job. And she’s like, can you watch the kids just got three kids, right? It’s ages. Well, this, I’m gonna get it wrong. I wrote in the thing. I don’t really have it. Like nine, six and 586 and five, something wrong along those lines. Doesn’t matter.

Julia
They’re under 10

Julia
their babies their lives. And I’m like, y’all stay overnight. I love these kids. Oh my gosh. My friend moved into a house when she was very young, somewhere in the east valley. And that’s what started her. She started having these paranormal experiences as a really young kid, and they got worse and worse and worse, never stopped. So even though she’s moved she’s living different states. You know, she’s 30 years old now never stopped. And I know this about her. And there’s been experiences and you know, I’ve met even early childhood friends that are like, Oh, man, we’ve seen some stuff, regardless of bleeper. I mean, I’m kind of already a believer in that, but it’s been her life. And now their kids are getting a little, you know, a little bit older and the well, even when the little ones too, she started talking about all kinds of weird ghosty stuff. And you’re like, as a kid, but no, you know, these kids are having a weird experiences. And I know about it. And I didn’t really think about it because I’ve known her for so long when I went to go watch them. And to be honest with you, I never and as somebody that really loves spooky stuff, too. I never in my wildest dreams, thought I’d have an experience even close to this. That’s the I mean, that’s how ridiculous it was. So I went to watch them. And we were having a normal night, little one. The youngest she talks about Somewhere who is her imaginary friend? We call it the imaginary friend. She says that she’s not imaginary. She’s just not alive. But she’s been talking about summer since she was two, right? And, you know, now she’s six years old and she still describes it exactly the same. Since she was to like, just the physical features everything. There’s something about summer liking wood, we don’t really know what that means. We keep asking and she’s like, I just need wood, you know? So she’s like looking for summer and we haven’t heard her talk about it in a while. And we’ll get worked up about it. Her older sister gets way more freaked out. She’s just like, Oh, hold on, but let’s you know, let’s move on guys. So we do and that’s that. Sometime later, we were in her mom’s bedroom and I was playing guitar for them. The youngest, who was talking about her imaginary friend got this like glazed over look on her face. And she’s just kind of like almost like a trance and that happens to her sometimes. And she just, she just walked to the window so you know, a balcony leading out from your bedroom. Just walk to the window blinds are open, so it’s not she saw some And she just open the lines and goes there’s that list up there. And I was like Annabelle you’re just you’re, you know, you’re getting worked up because you know you’re talking about your imaginary friend goes person and all this stuff and then the middle one goes over the window. She turns and looks at me and you know, like kids can get overdramatic because it’s kind of fun to like play with that and it’s like, you know, and they’re like me Oh, the attentions scary. It was not like that at all. The middle one looks at me and she’s like, had this just look of horror on her face. I’ve never seen a look like I’m child. So I started getting like this is actually Oh, man, I had to be here for it. And then the oldest one who would normally be the most free destiny and stuff walks over and looks out and says nothing goes like this is so wrong. So I won’t look and there was what you might describe as a ghost. It was a balcony across from us. Not too far. But you know, okay, parking lot of waiting maybe. But um, it was it wasn’t actually a person’s balcony. It was like this, you know, at least To the front door. So it’s like two front doors. And in the middle of those doors was the most massive figure I’ve ever seen in my life. I was logically trying to figure out if a human could be that tall. I mean, we would know about this human like it was that big and it wasn’t just tall, it was wide. And I don’t know, I mean, we all saw we all just stood there, and I froze, and I like almost had a heart attack. And then you know, it clicked that I am responsible for three young children right now and they are priority number one. So that might actually be what kept me going. I don’t know what how I would have reacted if it was just me. So I told him down to the room. I was like, I’ll go in a living room and I’m like, not demanding and all the kids I had no idea how to do that. You know?

Julia
I’m like, get out of here. They’re like, Okay.

Julia
I don’t know what’s happening. You know, I go out. I’m pacing around midnight hits. My parents are like, happy birthday on face time. And I’m sitting here with the kids are all just like

Julia
you guys. All right.

Julia
You know, my mom knows about my friends history. And she’s like, Oh, I’m seriously looking to come there like, I don’t want you even I don’t even drive here. Absolutely not like, you know, but there’s something going on. And I just, you know, people back and forth. I’m like, this is not real. It’s just it can’t be real. But there has to be a logical explanation. It was just it was it was too ridiculous. So I had to call them the kids and then you know, watching a movie, I went back to go see those. So there. I mean, this is easily like a half hour later, 45 minutes later, something and I looked at when I was still there, and the oldest one walks up, I was like, I don’t want to be in here. You’d be scared. And I wasn’t looking out the window at that time. I was looking at her and she goes, it’s moving now and now I’m thinking, Okay, now you’re getting worked up, but no, she wasn’t getting your job. It was actually moving. And this was the most interesting part of the whole thing. Okay, so you got like a giant picture of this. giant black figure shapes you like a human but just massive, with a smaller head controls at the side. And the only thing that was moving on it at all were like arms in the head. And it was very, you know, like pigeons when they look like robotic and stuff. It was like that. But you know, it just wasn’t normal. And it’s just hard because it’s dark out and not right up close, I can clearly see that this is what I’m seeing. But it’s like, you just keep kind of looking. You know, like, that’s just not that’s not real. But it was and so, I’m like, All right, we’re done with this. We’re gonna we’re not gonna look at anymore night. I’m gonna look at it later for sure. Right? I have to I don’t know what else to do right now. I took them back in the living room and put on a movie and they all passed out. Shockingly, no idea how I didn’t sleep all night. Once they were sleeping, I went over there. I looked out. This is I mean, it’s been going on for well over an hour, two hours. It’s hard to tell at this point. You know, I don’t really remember much time. But it’s still there. It’s still moving. And the weirdest thing came over me because I’m such a chicken and I always thought in a situation like this, I would totally like throw up and pass out. And that would be like the end of my life. But um, it was not something that was super out of character. And I opened up the door and I walked outside. And then I stood like in like the same kind of like stance. You know, people are like, if you got specific types of bears don’t quote me on this. We got to make yourself big and scary. is the same with you. I did. I’m very fair. Now, but that’s what I did. It just was the only thing in my brain that made sense at the time. I’ve got three kids, I need to protect them. I don’t know what this is. I want it to go right. So I have to be scared. I’m so not scary. So I just was scared. I mean, I was literally just like, and just stared at it. Yeah, just I just didn’t fact that you know, I just stood up for a really long time and then I got really creeped out. And I realized what I was doing and I was backed up and went in the house paced around. I went and looked out the window. God Never saw it again. That was it. So that was my 28th birthday. Just sleep all night I walked around the house checking on the kids make sure they’re breathing like looking through closets and like just go and kind of insane Be honest. And I’m fine now but you know, for like weeks it was like,

Julia
I was just really jumped in Egypt. You didn’t feel anything from it?

Julia
I did. I felt not a not a good thing. Not a good thing. No, I did it felt.

Julia
I’m never gonna know what it was. It’s just not you know. And there’s a

Julia
lot of people who do different things or whatever it is right. I’m always curious.

Julia
Absolutely. Like, what did it feel like to me? Yeah, totally demonic.

Julia
And before, before you sign there was a feeling before you saw it. Now when you saw the kids face? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Was it the same? Where did it get worse when you saw it yourself?

Julia
They got worse. So the demonic feeling came from seeing it and especially when I was out there staring at that was pretty intense. I’m seeing the kids face was just Their kids the look on their face was too real for them to be like having fun with it. They’re not

Julia
when you said that I feel.

Julia
Yeah, yeah. Oh yeah. When a kid looks at you like with horror, it’s like there’s something’s not right. You know. And I knew it at that point. But so anyway, that happened was not expecting.

Unknown Speaker
That’s crazy. Yep.

Julia
And it’s something that I love. I really liked this kind of stuff. I don’t like heights. I don’t like roller coasters. That’s not my adrenaline rush. It totally comes from like scary stories and movies and ghosts and stuff. I like it.

Julia
And like, you know, I don’t ever want to see that again. So much. Notice there’s

Julia
a there’s, it’s a different thing there and it kind of it lends, in my opinion. It lends itself to that same, that same part of us that enjoys the sadness that because there’s no answer to any of it. That’s the worst thing is like, the most bizarre supernatural Mothman prophecies mentions is one of the most awful things you’ve ever hurting your life? And it’s never an answer to it. It’s just more theories and more ideas. And God forbid you ever experienced something like that? But it’s something like that. Yes. Completely unexplainable, right? You just you feel it, you see it, you know, it’s real. You’ll never be able to prove it to anybody else. Yeah, there’s, you know, it’s just this thing that exists in for why. Why does this exist? I know why did that have to happen? Yeah. What was that a richer existence your life? any way, shape or form? Probably not. But we don’t get to know. I’m totally happy to happen. And I’ll tell you that. Oh, yeah. Well, because it validates stuff, and validates a

Julia
lot of stuff. It’s like, I know what I saw. And there’s no going back. I mean, actually, you know, once a day, I’m like, did I see it? And it’s like, you totally did, you know, you did, but it’s just unbelievable. It’s hard. It’s hard. Even, you know, it’s hard for me to be real about it. But no, I’m happy it happened because I didn’t know that’s how I would react and I’m proud of myself. I don’t know if it was because of the kids or not if it was what I’m a protective, you know, because that was that was all that I cared about. I posted the story and read it and the majority of people were well, there are a lot of people who are Really nice, older guys. And then like, a lot of other people, and you’d I got picture there for two hours. And it’s like, I know I never thought I never thought about it once. I just didn’t know. Yeah.

Julia
And you know what, even if I did think about it,

Julia
what’s it gonna do if I snap a photo?

Julia
over? I have no idea what’s gonna happen. If I saw it again. I wouldn’t take a

Julia
picture disappear all the time. Yeah, over here. Nothing.

Unknown Speaker
was with the kids.

Julia
Were all just gone. Yeah.

Julia
Yeah, so that’s that. I mean, I don’t know. I think that what people don’t understand if you haven’t experienced it, I wouldn’t have understood this until it happened. But that fear is really crippling. It’s just you are so frozen that you’re not you’re not concentrating stuff like that. It’s survival.

Keith
But that was the first experience you ever had with something like

Julia
Yeah, but it was mostly Sometimes the other ones are just like, you know, but I lived in I am when I was 19, I moved to LA with boyfriend and ex boyfriend now. And we lived as artment and I started having experiences we didn’t have too many, but I’ve had a few. The first one and at first they all just happen to me when I was the lowest everyone’s like,

Julia
oh boy, that’s that’s what makes the craziest story is when you have when it’s verifiable with somebody else. Yeah,

Julia
that’s what it because this is our children, but they’ll tell you

Julia
so many things that do happen that are those sorts of like, I saw something that tell something whatever right there was dismissed as like it was a moment, right? Yep. versus when there’s somebody else there that experiences with you. And I was like, Oh, shit, you saw that. You saw that. Okay, right.

Julia
Going back to that story. What was the craziest person because my brains just couldn’t just couldn’t accept everything. When their mom finally came home. I text her I was like, really Welcome situation she goes okay and i downplayed It’s my fault she’s at work or kids are with me. Now we’re fine. And she’s like I don’t leave early anyway and I’m like, cool. I was like I was sleeping great and I just told her she was like ah, I’ve been having paranormal encounters my whole life and she’s got crazy stories but um she’s like nothing quite like that. What shut up I told her the whole thing the oldest kid wakes up and you know totally half asleep like not even awake yet walks in the room she hears this talking doesn’t even say hi to her mom, which is not usual goes right tangos.

Julia
You know, did you see it and she gave her the exact same description, and I’m sleep deprived and I’m freaking out and I was like, okay, that really does happen. You just woke up and said the exact same thing I said, you know, that was one of those things. Right there.

Keith
Right terrifying. Yeah, I don’t Sounds like whatever entity was or whatever follows her and

Julia
I know well that’s what people were saying I’m like what if summer actually looks like that and it disguises itself as like a little girl things out there I’m like I don’t know man. You know maybe I have no idea

Julia
and that’s where you get into the whole yeah intentions so yeah spirits demons whatever right? They have intentions yeah and there’s specific to people there you know it’s like but they don’t follow through and shit they just stand across

Julia
from their demon guy kill somebody or something.

Julia
I was freaking out so much more than I think I wasn’t I just enjoyed the show.

Julia
celebrate it was just like, Oh, I hate this person.

Julia
Just ask me

Keith
questions.

Papa Joey
For hours. What’s going on?

Keith
Or she’s been bugging me

Unknown Speaker
now. Right? Cool. Yeah. What

Julia
Gonna go with I was very, very intimidating.

Julia
Yeah, you scared? Scared you got it up.

Unknown Speaker
I’m a wild animal you don’t know.

Julia
Hey, if you haven’t experienced like that I’m gonna I’m gonna say you should probably not get really freaked out and you should get really brave really fast because it worked for me

Julia
I’ve never had I’ve never had that kind of thing yet but

Julia
I have no idea if it’ll work for you. I mean that’s the thing to everyone’s like sending me messages like you need stage and fault I know right? Like, I’m not gonna do any of that at all.

Unknown Speaker
Your ghost is your ghost my ghost just run away.

Julia
You don’t know the situation. I mean, I’m still shocked out there like what

Julia
it was like that’s like what people do in horror movies. And you’re exactly what if

Unknown Speaker
you were a whole year older. Yeah. Kicking

Keith
Did you write a song about it yet? I’ve not

Julia
experienced but this is just a crazy and awesome coincidence. So yeah, we talked about ghosts you know here and there not all the time that you know me and me and the kids mom, my friend because of her situation. And we were in a group chat with our other good friend and she was like I had this horrible situation I’m getting tired of it. I feel bad for the kids are having more experiences. And, you know, we kind of lighten the mood. I’m like, what, what is this ghost? What you’re gonna be friends with it, get to clean a little bit while you’re at work talking to girls, and maybe it’s not that bad. You know, maybe it’s cute. Maybe I’ll be with your boyfriend. You know, my friend goes like, he could be here.

Julia
I it took me like 10 seconds to be like, Oh, I have to write a song about how to be right back. So I wrote one song and then I was like, What If I take this further and I write a bunch of songs about it, oh, and now I’m like working on like a rock opera for lack of a better term about your about Yeah, yeah long, the very simple version. There’s a lot going on with it. And I actually I’m really in the early stages of this, but I am I am actually planning on finishing this and making it happen, but it’s about a girl whose new apartment it’s haunted. shouldn’t leave it. And then when she finally summons this thing, she follow them

Unknown Speaker
a lot of songs.

Keith
Awesome. I know.

Julia
It sounds really cheesy it probably. Yeah. A lot more swearing.

Julia
It’s nice and creepy.

Julia
This is called I don’t believe in ghosts.

Unknown Speaker
someone’s watching me

Unknown Speaker
standing at the edge

Unknown Speaker
moving star in

Unknown Speaker
our moms

Unknown Speaker
just like the performer runs

Unknown Speaker
anomalously

Unknown Speaker
that covers up to not see

Unknown Speaker
Hello down

Julia
denial obviously is there’s no ghosts What could it be? And I’m pacing back and forth and questioning my sanity

Unknown Speaker
questioning my voice

Unknown Speaker
because unbelief

Unknown Speaker
I don’t believe in

Julia
Yeah. Yeah.

Julia
You know what’s so creepy? No, it’s just it’s it’s

Julia
it probably makes my story seem even less believable. I don’t really care because it happened. So I’m interested. There’s no you can’t even tell me. But it’s weird that I wrote that song. And then had that experience like a month or so later.

Keith
Oh, would it happen after the fact

Julia
after a while? I wrote the song first. I got the idea. I know.

Julia
Sounds so like I can’t

Papa Joey
wait. Here’s a love song comes out of it. Oh,

Keith
whatever. So maybe the ghost hunter should go do a

Keith
hunt over there.

Julia
Oh, yeah, but actually having them in here. If you only swing by with all these experiences, I know for a fact she would totally

Keith
appreciate your creepy friend but we’re all

Julia
talking about Gosh, somebody wanted to ask you questions like a podcast would you do it just in case and she’s like, Yeah, right. She’s

Unknown Speaker
got to do the whole you know, pixelated face and

Julia
even just to meet them,

Julia
maybe give her we might have to do a whole episode just on that. Yeah

Julia
I’ll tell you why should the next

Julia
the next year there’s going to be there’s going to be some definitive shift going on because all this stuff is that happened off the coast and they’re having hearings on it now and people in higher places are starting to ask questions. It’s getting to the point where if there is any real information they’re not going to be able to suppress any longer because it’s just it’s becoming mainstream. You know, it’s not just on the skirts of like all those people are nuts. Right. What it’s been for a long time. Yeah, cuz Oh, alien chasers, hippies and records, whatever. Yeah, it’s changing the dynamics changing now becoming more mainstream and

Keith
how can we logically think that the universe is how can we think that we’re the only ones out there? How about

Julia
I think it’s so crazy about it. Like To me it always made more sense that they’re from here that aliens And we’ll talk about the different our oceans. We didn’t really land so much yet we’re

Papa Joey
here because we decided to go to the center Earth.

Julia
Ocean, the amount the percentage of ocean that we can’t get to you can’t explore we never will be able to work not in our lifetimes. It makes total sense that those people are beings figured out how to get up here versus coming from light years away. And you know what I mean that to me that’s that’s not inconceivable but it’s also sort of a little bit ridiculous like, they came from that far and then they crashed. What

Julia
are they doing here? anyway? Like,

Julia
how awesome Are they here? How

Julia
like, they can travel hundreds of light years no problem. It’s all good. And then they crashed. And you know, didn’t have a plan for that. But

Unknown Speaker
yeah, what you’re going to figure out a way to cover those tracks. Yeah,

Papa Joey
what you’re witnessing here is previews of shows to come. Yes. Yeah, we really touched on you’re gonna go

Keith
Julian’s gonna be a permanent part of our cast now.

Keith
What about any exciting projects you have coming up other than the

Keith
What do you feel like? We’re going to find you?

Julia
What where do we see you live regularly? Oh, regularly on my gigs. Every Saturday I’m at the living room in Chandler that’s on Queen Creek Road. Yes. Come on the living room it’s like, you know, I really love that spot. And every Saturday three, six, it’s great. Cool. And so, you know, I post everything there other gigs there. You know, social media is good as a good tool. Yeah,

Julia
definitely.

Keith
So we’ll put a link to your website.

Unknown Speaker
Yes, sure.

Papa Joey
Absolutely. Awesome. Thank you so much for joining us.

Papa Joey
All right.

Keith
